    Set in the stunning location of Bute Park, Pettigrew Tea Rooms are masters of afternoon tea catering for standard, gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian, vegan and low sugar diets. You just need to let them know when you make your booking.

    Upon arrival at Pettigrew, you can choose your sandwich fillings and opt for a warm scone with fruit or without. Whichever scone you choose, you can be certain that it will come with the all-important clotted cream and homemade jam. Guests can then take a look at the famous cake cabinet to choose their treats – all baked on site.

    Afternoon tea attendees can enjoy loose leaf tea, locally roasted coffee, lush hot chocolates and soft drinks. If you fancy some bubbles you can bring your own prosecco for a corkage free of £5.50. The tea experience costs £17.50 per person with two rounds of sandwiches or £32.50 for two people sharing three rounds of sandwiches.

    Tip: If you’re too full to finish your treats Pettigrew will provide you with a compostable box to take them home in.

    3. Barker Tea House

    Barker Tea House provide the vintage afternoon tea experience in their antique tea house. Expect delicious homemade cakes, gooey brownies, the finest teas, and outdoor seating for those glorious summer days.

    There are over 55 types of tea to choose from at Barker Tea House and they all come served in a cast iron pot accompanied with a delicate cup and saucer. Classic Afternoon Tea costs £19.99 and includes a selection of miniature sandwiches, two scones with clotted cream and preserves, and an assortment of sweet treats. They also cater for vegans.

    Barker Tea House also have a reputation for making great milkshakes – if you can fit one in!

    4. Waterloo Gardens Tea House

    This tea house is situated next to the picturesque Waterloo Gardens – the perfect place for tea on a sunny day. Their traditional afternoon tea boasts a selection of cakes and pastries, scones with clotted cream and jam, a selection of sandwiches and chocolate truffles – all homemade and served on a three-tier cake stand with a tea of your choice.

    Afternoon tea is made to order, so you need to book a day in advance to ensure everything is freshly made. Waterloo want the tea rooms to be accessible to all – they stock gluten free bread and dairy free spreads and will do their best to create options for other dietary requirements, just let them know in advance.

    Waterloo Gardens Tea House afternoon tea is £13.50 per head.

    5. The Orchard

    The award-winning Orchard in Radyr offers a different style of afternoon tea – serving savoury bites like bruschetta with fresh tomatoes and basil, mini pizzas and mini Welsh rarebit as well as the classic selection of finger sandwiches and scones with whipped cream and jam.

    Guests will also be served a mixture of cakes and tarts while they enjoy the vast selection of loose-leaf teas and organic fair trade coffee available. Every piece of food is fresh and made on site. Afternoon tea costs £17.95 and there’s gluten free and vegan options available if you notify The Orchard in advance.
