– 4 - min read
Pride is a huge event in Birmingham! It’s also one of the UK’s biggest celebrations of diversity, with thousands of people from around the world coming together to support equality and human rights.
Birmingham Pride is a weekend-long celebration of diversity and inclusion. It aims to raise awareness of issues affecting the LGBT+ community, celebrate our differences, build bridges within and between communities, honour those who have been involved in the struggle for equal rights as well as celebrate last year’s achievements. Here are five things you should know before attending this year’s festival:
When is Birmingham Pride?
Birmingham Pride takes place on the last weekend in May.

Where’s it taking place?
Birmingham Pride will take place in Birmingham’s Gay Village, with the main stage at the ‘Smithfield Live’ area. Smithfield Live was previously the location of Birmingham Wholesale Markets and now will host Birmingham Pride’s biggest-ever main stage, the legendary cabaret stage, the ground breaking dance arena and the additional attractions of the popular fun fair, street food stalls, seating areas, VIP zones and much more!

Why is it so important?
Birmingham Pride is an opportunity to celebrate our LGBTQ+ community, and all they have achieved over the years. It’s a chance to encourage others who may be struggling with their sexuality or gender identity to see that they’re not alone, while showing solidarity with those who face discrimination because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. It also promotes tourism to our city since so many people come to the festival every year. And it supports local businesses by bringing guests from all over the country.
