At Clayton Hotels we are personally committed to significantly improving our processes and practices to reduce any harmful impacts we are having on the environment. Living Green is Clayton Hotels’ environmental movement which inspires care for our environment as a “Way of Life” throughout our hotels; both for our people and our guests.
All our hotels have been accredited by Green Tourism, a certification program that provides a framework to achieve a sustainable business in the tourism industry. 80% of our hotels have achieved a Gold certificate and we’re working hard to get all the way there.
We are committed to tracking all waste generation, focusing on renewable destinations and zero-to-landfill. In 2022, we achieved our target to divert 100% of waste from landfill. We have also engaged with waste processing suppliers that give us the facility to accurately report the volume of food waste across our portfolio and we remain committed to reducing food waste by 15% per sleeper by 2026.
Some notable waste management projects include:
The average age of our hotel buildings is 15 years across Dalata Hotel Group – young by comparison to many of our counterparts and more energy efficient as a result.
We operate a very comprehensive capital investment programme which ensures we continually look to maintain and up-grade our hotels to the highest standards. As we continue to expand our portfolio, our overall performance in this area will continue to improve as we benefit from new building technologies and efficiencies.
As part of the new build process, we issue a set of ‘Employer Requirements’ to the developer/builder. In these requirements, we outline that a standard of BREAM ‘very good’ is to be achieved. BREEAM is the world’s leading sustainability assessment method for master planning projects, infrastructure and buildings.
We exclusively work with Patrick McCaul (Environmental Consulting Engineers) to make sure all hotels are designed, constructed and function as per our brand specific design.
Clayton Hotels are committed to continuing our efforts to reduce our environmental impact. We’re always happy to hear from our guests about suggestions and queries. If you have any recommendations or would like to know more please contact us.
